Broadband and Bandwidth

1.    What is broadband?
The telecommunication in which a wide band of frequencies is available to transmit information.

2. What units are used to measure bandwidth?
bits/bytes

3. How much faster is broadband than dial up?
Broadband is much faster. You can easily access the huge amount of broadband using contents that is on the web now.

4. What are the speeds that broadband operates at compared to dial up?
Broadband operates from 10 to 20 times faster than a dial-up connection, enabling the speedy transfer of large amounts of data.

5.  What are some of the advantages of using a broadband connection to download something like a video compared to dial up?

It saves time, for instance, downloading a song takes a few seconds versus perhaps ten minutes with dial-up; e-mailing digital photos is almost instantaneous.

6. Create an image in paint that illustrates how a high bandwidth connection can move more data compared to a dial up connection at a given time.

Internet Speed

1. What is the speed of the connection from your computer to the Sydney location on the map?
0.29 Mbps

2.  What is the speed of the connection from your computer to the U.S location on the map?
0.62Mbps

3. Why did the data transfer rates vary? [Hint: think of what happens when an eight lane highway moves into a two lane highway?]
The data starts to slow down.

Audio Bit Depth Sample Size and Sampling Rate

1.       Sound moves through what medium?
Sound moves through the physical medium to travel anywhere.

2.       What unit is used to measure sample size?
bit/s
3.       What unit is used to measure sampling rate?
Hertz
4.       Compare the quality of AM, FM and Digital radio.

AM radio is broadcast on several frequency bands.  Frequency modulation (FM) is a form of modulation which conveys information over a carrier wave by varying its frequency (contrast this with amplitude modulation, in which the amplitude of the carrier is varied while its frequency remains constant). Digital radios send the analog audio signal digitized into zeros and ones, compressed using formats such as mp2, and transmitted using a digital modulation scheme.

Movie Maker-How to organise your project

1. Create folder for project

2. place in folder- video files
                          -music
                          -still image

3. Open Movie maker- Import resources

4. Saving- project file- remember last location of resources- work in progress
                                - Movie File- all resources enabled in one file -''completetd work"
                                                                                                     -Different resolutions

You should sychronise at the end of each lesson (the s drive)

Audacity

Today we learnt how to use the program audacity. The tutorial shows that there are several different tools they are:

selection tool: highlight a part of music

envelope tool: used to change the volume of the track

envelope tool #2: volume change

zoom tool: zoom into the track

drawing tool: able to move individual handle

Timeshift tool: used when you have more than one track and you are able to move it whereever you want.
